Because the children of today all deserve a tomorrow

Greencable powers up support for GKCCT

From Christmas trees to golf days, the recycling firm has raised thousands for the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, and it’s only just getting started.

When Ed Nash set up Greencable in 2023, alongside his business partner Josh Elston, he knew he wanted the business to be about more than recycling cables and scrap metals.

For Ed, building a company with purpose meant giving back to the local community as well as protecting the planet. That’s why Greencable has been a proud partner of the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, a charity close to Ed’s heart and one he’s supported for several years.

“It’s been a positive experience from start to finish,” said Ed. “They’re a lovely team, full of empathy and compassion, and they understand that we’re a business, too. They’ve always been respectful of our time and what we can and can’t do, which makes it a real pleasure to work with them.”

How it all began

Ed’s connection with Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust started long before Greencable was founded. While working for a previous employer, an agricultural parts company, he came up with the simple but effective idea of using its delivery vehicles for collecting and recycling Christmas trees from local households and businesses in exchange for a small donation to the Trust.

The initiative struck a chord with the community. Not only did it save people the hassle of disposing of their waste Christmas trees in the New Year, it also raised vital funds for families affected by childhood cancer. Over the years, the scheme has gone from strength to strength, raising more than £10,000.

When Ed launched Greencable, he didn’t hesitate to carry the tradition forward. With a fleet of vehicles at the ready and a knack for turning scrap into something meaningful, Greencable was perfectly placed to continue supporting the Christmas tree recycling scheme.

Growing the partnership

The Christmas tree initiative is just one part of Greencable’s support for the Trust. The company has also raised more than £3,000 through its annual charity golf day, an event that brings together staff, customers and partners for a good cause.

Ed said: “These events are a brilliant way to involve our team and our customers. It’s not just about raising money. It’s about raising awareness, too.

“Cancer is the worst nightmare for all of us, but it’s even more poignant when it affects children.

“So, we’re happy to do our bit to support the vital work GKCCT does.”

Looking ahead, Greencable plans to host more golf days and fundraising events throughout the year, giving even more opportunities for people to get involved.

New ways to give back

Ed and the Greencable team are also exploring a new initiative that will allow its customers to donate a portion of the money they receive for their scrap metal and WEEE recycling directly to Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust. It’s a simple idea with the potential to make a big difference, helping turn business waste into a steady stream of support for local families facing childhood cancer.

For Ed, it’s about embedding giving into the culture of the business.

He said: “We’re looking forward to strengthening our partnership and doing more for GKCCT in the future. It’s something we’re proud to be part of.”

A valued relationship

Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust spokesperson Abbie Bissell-Blazier said: “Long-term partnerships like the one we have with Greencable are vital to the work we do.

“Their support helps us to fund pioneering research into rare childhood cancers, while also providing practical and emotional support for families when they need it most.

“We’ve been especially impressed by the creativity shown in initiatives like the Christmas tree recycling scheme. It’s a brilliant example of how a simple idea can make a huge difference. We’re so grateful to Ed and the team for their commitment, and we look forward to building on this partnership in the years ahead.”

Shared values, lasting impact

At its heart, this partnership works because Greencable and the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust share the same values of compassion, community and a determination to make a difference. Just as Greencable champions sustainability and the circular economy, the Trust is dedicated to ensuring no family faces childhood cancer alone. Together, it proves that when businesses and charities join forces, the results can be powerful, raising funds, awareness and hope for the future.
