How we can help locally

How we can help

When your child has been diagnosed with cancer, there can be so much to think about and take in. For most people, it feels simply overwhelming. We are here to help you and to let you know we are here to support you through your child’s journey.

Financial support

When your child has been diagnosed with cancer, your family faces many additional costs. We are here to try and help with some of these costs.

We are able to offer non means-tested financial support grants to families of children with cancer in Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Powys, Monmouthshire and also some parts of Devon. Currently, due to funding, we are unable to give grants to people living outside these areas.

In addition, we are able to give support grants to families of children with rhabdoid tumours nationally.

Grants are typically given when a child is diagnosed with cancer, and further grants can be given if a child sadly relapses or following bereavement.

Practical & emotional support with our family support service

Our family support service is able to give practical and emotional support to families in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. Our support workers can work with the child who has cancer, their siblings and their parents.

They are able to visit families at home or to see them in our GKCCT family support room. Our dedicated team are there for local families at all stages of their childhood cancer journey including bereavement support if it were to be needed.

New diagnosis support packs

If your child has recently been diagnosed with cancer and you live in Worcestershire, Herefordshire or Gloucestershire then you may have received a new diagnosis support pack from us already (if you have been cared for by your local hospital).

The packs contain a multitude of useful items such as toiletries, a comfort blanket, a notebook and pen, headphones for those long nights in hospital, a torch, sticker reward charts, a comfort cuddly for the child and several other items that will be valuable to have during an unplanned hospital stay.

If you have not received your pack and live in one of these regions, please drop us a message and we can get one to you as soon as possible.

AV1 robots

AV1 robots can help by giving isolated children a ‘window’ to their friends and the outside world whilst they are unwell. The AV1 robot allows children in a hospital bed to interact with their classroom and their peers at the same time.

We are proud to be able to offer this service to families in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.
