Because the children of today all deserve a tomorrow

Safeguarding at the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust

We take safeguarding seriously

The Trust takes safeguarding of children and adults extremely seriously. The safety and welfare of children is our highest priority. In all matters relating to child protection the charity will follow the procedures laid down by our own (or where appropriate the relevant child’s) Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) together with the Department for Education’s guidance contained in “Working Together to Safeguard Children (December 2023)”.

The Trust’s staff who come into contact with children, young people and their families will:

  • Have read our Safeguarding policy and have undertaken regular training to ensure they understand what they need to do
  • Be able to identify and respond to potential indicators of abuse, neglect and other safeguarding concerns
  • Know their role and responsibilities in respect of safeguarding
  • Know how to communicate and record concerns
  • Use their expert judgement to put the child’s needs at the heart of the safeguarding system so that the right solution can be found for each individual child
  • Know to act upon concerns in line with the principles and procedures for local child protection management and Working Together to Safeguard Children.

Responsibilities

  • Every member of staff working for the Trust has a responsibility to safeguard. We all have a duty to report concerns wherever they arise for instance through our work in supporting families we visit at home, schools, or hospitals, at fundraising events and with regard to the behaviour or practice of staff, other organisations or individuals.

To find out more or to request copies of our Trust safeguarding polices, please email contact@gkcct.org and ask for the Safeguarding lead, Sarah Tarry.
