What impact do volunteers make?
As a charity that receives no regular statutory funding, volunteers are an essential part of helping us continue to provide practical, emotional and financial support to local families affected by childhood cancer.
From helping at fundraising events and supporting awareness campaigns, to cheering on runners or assisting with community collections, volunteers help us reach more people, raise vital funds and continue delivering our services throughout the year.
Many of our volunteers also tell us how rewarding it is to see the impact their time has on local families facing the unimaginable.

What does volunteering involve?
One of the biggest misconceptions about volunteering is that you need lots of spare time or specialist experience. In reality, volunteering can be as flexible as you need it to be.
Some volunteers help for a single afternoon at an event, while others support regularly throughout the year. Some enjoy public-facing roles chatting to supporters and raising awareness, while others prefer practical tasks such as event setup, crafts or collecting Christmas Trees.
There is no “typical” volunteer role, and we will always work with you to find something that suits your interests, availability and confidence levels.

NGS Open Garden Volunteer 20th & 21st June
A friendly, hands-on volunteering opportunity supporting a beautiful open garden event
in Hanley Swan. One of our wonderful supporters, is opening their garden as part of
the National Garden Scheme and donating all refreshment proceeds to the charity —
you’ll help bring that to life on the day by:
- Selling charity merchandise
- Serving refreshments such as tea, coffee, cake and lemonade
- Taking cash and card payments
- Chatting with visitors about the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and our work.
- Helping create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for guests
Hanbury Countryside Show Car Park Marshall – 4 July
The Hanbury Show is a brilliant introduction to volunteering with the Trust. It’s a fantastic day out with a wonderful atmosphere and a great chance to meet our friendly team and other supporters.
As a volunteer at the Hanbury Show, you’ll enjoy:
- Free entry to the show
- A warm welcome from our team
- The opportunity to meet other volunteers and supporters
- The chance to make a real difference to local families
Worcester City Runs 2026 – 13 September
Support runners taking on the Worcester City Runs by helping with cheer points or fundraising support throughout the day.
These events have an incredible atmosphere and are a fantastic way to experience community fundraising in action.
Christmas Bucket Collection Volunteer
This is a friendly, flexible volunteering opportunity helping us raise vital donations from
shoppers at various locations in Worcestershire during the Christmas period.
When and where we need volunteers:
- Asda Worcester | 5th and 6th December
- St Peter’s Garden Centre | 11th and 12th December
- Webbs of Wychbold | 12th and 19th December
- Tesco Warndon, Worcester | 19th and 20th December
Christmas Treecycle 2027 – January
Our annual Christmas Treecycle campaign continues to grow each year and relies heavily on volunteer support.
There are lots of ways to get involved, including:
- Driving vans, lorries or cars with trailers
- Helping collect trees
- Assisting with loading and chipping trees
- Offering an extra pair of hands across collection days
Whether you have a vehicle or simply some spare time and enthusiasm, every role helps make the campaign possible.
Family Fun Days and Community Events
Throughout the year, we host and attend family fun days, awareness events and community activities. Volunteers help with everything from coordinating activities and welcoming families to providing services such as face painting or ice cream.
These events help families affected by childhood cancer connect with others who share similar experiences, while volunteers play a key role in creating a warm and supportive atmosphere.
Knitting Volunteer
As a regular Knitting volunteer, you will create knitted ladybird teddies that are placed into our New Diagnosis Bags for children and families in hospital.
This is flexible yet on-going, as and when you can pick up your knitting needles.
What you’ll get from this:
- Knowing your handmade ladybirds are going directly to children receiving a cancer diagnosis
- A calming, meaningful way to support families facing childhood cancer
- Being part of something deeply personal and impactful
- The chance to use your creativity to bring comfort to others
Supporter Care Volunteer
This is a meaningful, ongoing volunteering role helping us care for and thank the incredible
supporters who make our work possible. You’ll play a key part in making sure every
donation and act of support is acknowledged with warmth and genuine appreciation.
When you’ll be needed:
- Either a Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday (your choice)
- A few hours per week (flexible timing)

Collecting Christmas trees is a brilliant way to raise vital funds for the Trust, and it’s something I’ve truly enjoyed doing for several years. Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust is a fantastic charity, providing such valuable support to children and their families at such a difficult time.
