We are proud to announce the use and distribution of our general practice educational materials by the award winning GP Updates training provider, Red Whale. Red Whale are one of the largest education providers of clinicians in the UK. They run training courses and seminars for around 20,000 GPs annually.
Childhood cancer is the most common medical cause of death of children in the UK. One of the major things we can do to help change this is to work towards earlier diagnosis for these children.
When cancer is diagnosed at the earliest possible stage, it gives children the best possible chances of survival.
Currently, in the UK, children with cancer are diagnosed at a later stage than those in Europe.
One of the main reasons for this is a lack of awareness of the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer amongst parents, carers and clinicians.
Current training for doctors in the UK contains very little teaching on childhood cancer and the symptoms to look for. The team at the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust are working tirelessly to change this.
We are proud to have been able to team up with the award winning GP Update training provider, Red Whale in the production of some signs and symptoms GP learning materials.
The learning materials include a Paediatric pearls update by email and also free access teaching video and pdf learning summary that is available for all GPs to access nationally.
Summaries of the childhood cancer teaching (including our awareness cards) have already been circulated to over 47,000 updates subscribers in the UK and more detailed childhood cancer diagnosis resources based on our teaching have been included in the GP Updates handbook which is taught in detail to between 15,000 and 20,000 clinicians each year. The video is also being used as part of the in person training events which also signposts clinicians to our website for more information.
It has been a pleasure to work with Red Whale to enable our work to reach more clinicians nationally. Teaching the signs and symptoms is vital to help save the lives of children with cancer.
