When parents lose a child, it can be hard to know what to say. Sometimes it feels easier to say nothing for fear of getting it wrong.
You may think it is better to keep a distance as you feel awkward, but the family may need you. If you do not know what to say, why not do something instead?
You could pop a meal outside the door or send a card or something thoughtful. If you see them, smile and say hello. Simple things can mean so much to a bereaved family.
Immediately after the death of a baby or child, families often receive lots of support from friends, family and outside agencies. After the funeral takes place, help often dwindles as other people's lives return back to normal. It is often at this point that support can be so helpful.
